7 Days of Prayer for South Africa · Day 1: Truth Over Our Nation

South Africa is a nation that knows what it is to be shaken, and what it is to be held. For the next seven days, we bring our land, our wounds and our hopes before the God who owns the earth and everything in it. Each day has a theme, a Scripture to stand on, a short reflection and three prayers to pray.

Pray them alone, with your family, or with your church. Pray them slowly. A new day will be posted each morning this week.

Day 1 · Truth Over Our Nation

“A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish.”

Proverbs 19:9 (ESV)

Reflection

Nations, like people, can be misrepresented. In a season when stories about South Africa travel faster than the truth, Scripture reminds us that God sees, weighs and judges every word. Our calling is not to answer lies with lies, but to stand in truth and ask God to bring it to light.

We pray

  • That the truth about South Africa would be seen and heard among the nations, and that every distortion that sows fear or division would lose its power.
  • Lord, guard our own tongues. Let our leaders, our media and our people speak honestly, even when the truth is uncomfortable.
  • Father, give discernment to all who tell our story, at home and abroad, so they seek what is true before what is loud.

Amen. Join us tomorrow for Day 2: The Land Is the Lord’s.
