This is Day 3 of a 7-day prayer guide for South Africa. Start with Day 1 here.
Day 3 · Open Your Mouth for the Poor
“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Proverbs 31:8–9 (ESV)
Reflection
Scripture calls those with influence to speak and act for those without it. The economic scars of our history are still visible in our townships and villages, and God’s heart is for the destitute to be lifted up, not forgotten.
We pray
- That every effort at economic redress would truly reach the historically marginalised, and not only a few.
- Lord, root out corruption and favouritism, so that opportunity is fairly given and faithfully used.
- Father, move every business, local and multinational, to deal fairly with its workers, suppliers and communities.
Amen. Join us tomorrow for Day 4: A Land Whose Stones Are Iron.
