South Africa

South Africa is heavy on my heart today.

The headlines feel relentless mismanagement of public funds, commission after commission exposing corruption, a fragile education system, an overwhelmed health system. There are days when it feels as though we are studying our own decline in slow motion. As a citizen, as a believer, as someone who loves this nation deeply, I feel the tension between realism and hope.

But when desperation begins to whisper louder than faith, Scripture interrupts.

I came across these words:

“Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness in the fertile field. And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in safety, quietly at home. They will be at rest… Wherever they plant seed, bountiful crops will spring up.” Isaiah 32:15–20 (NLT)

What struck me was not just the promise of prosperity but the order of restoration.

First, the Spirit is poured out. Then the wilderness becomes fruitful. Then justice rules. Then righteousness brings peace. Then peace produces quietness and confidence.

God does not ignore broken systems. He transforms them at the root. A wilderness is not repaired by slogans. It is revived by outpouring.

And so today, I refuse to let despair define South Africa’s future. I believe not because the data looks good, not because institutions are currently strong, but because God has a history of turning dry ground into harvest fields.

If He can speak light into darkness, He can speak justice into corruption. If He can bring order out of chaos, He can bring integrity back into governance. If He can restore cities in Scripture, He can restore our nation.

I believe South Africa shall become like a fertile field. I believe justice will rule in financial institutions. Justice will rule in the criminal justice system. Justice will rule in government. Justice will rule in municipalities. Justice will rule in policing structures. Justice will rule in the hearts of leaders.

And righteousness not performative religion, but authentic righteousness will produce peace.

Confidence will return. Safety will return. Dignity will return. Opportunity will return. The story is not over.

God specializes in turning wilderness into abundance.
