Forever love

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

— Romans 8:38–39 (NIV)

As I meditate on this passage, one phrase echoes in my spirit: “nor any powers.” What powers, I wonder? The powers of darkness, the unseen forces that war against our peace and identity. The powers of sickness and disease. The powers at work in corrupted systems — governments built on injustice, racism, tribalism, and oppression. The ancient powers that seem to run through bloodlines — generational strongholds passed down like an inheritance. Even those, even these — with all their whispered lies and destructive agendas — cannot separate me from the love of God.

It doesn’t matter if those powers reside beneath the earth or rule from high places. It doesn’t matter if they were unleashed generations ago by careless words or evil intentions. Not one of them has the authority to remove me from the embrace of the Father — not when I am hidden in Christ Jesus.

And then Paul adds: “nor anything else in all creation.” That means every created thing — every force, every storm, every temptation, every broken part of this world. It means that even the natural world, though beautiful and powerful, is subject to the One who made it. Sometimes we can idolize the created more than the Creator — find peace in the mountains, hope in the oceans, healing in crystals or stars — forgetting that nothing created can offer us eternal love. Only the Creator can.

This love is not accessed through merit or good deeds. I can feed the hungry, shelter the widow, or live by the rules — but none of these things make me worthy of His love. They are responses to love, not the reason for it. The only door to this unbreakable love is Jesus. “The love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Without Jesus, I stand exposed — condemned, unworthy, and cast out. But in Him, I am forever covered, eternally loved.

So when I feel far from God — when shame, pain, grief, or confusion clouds my view — I must ask myself: Who moved? Because God hasn’t. His Word declares that nothing can separate me from His love. If I feel distant, it is not because He has withdrawn. It is because I have turned my gaze.

Today I am reminded: there is no best friend forever, no happily ever after, like the love of Jesus. Before I seek this kind of love in a friend or spouse, I must first recognize that I already have it — fully and perfectly — in Christ.

Thank You, Lord, for loving me not because of who I am, but because of who You are. Thank You that Your love is steady, not shifting with seasons or circumstances. Thank You for the eternal sacrifice that secured for me eternal love.

Lord, give me grace to remain rooted in this truth — that whether I am in a season of abundance or lack, laughter or sorrow — I am never separated from Your love. And may I carry this love into the world as Your hands and feet, sharing it freely, boldly, and joyfully.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.
