These words from Jesus echo deep in my spirit today. When I read them, I’m reminded that my hope is not anchored in the victories I can see right now—but in the finished work of Christ. My confidence is not in what I’ve already attained, but in what I believe He has already done.
Jesus said these words to His disciples knowing full well that hardship still lay ahead. He didn’t promise ease—He promised overcoming. He was showing them—and us—a better way to live. A way that isn’t driven by what we see, but by what we know.
Even as persecution approached, Jesus told them: Fix your eyes on Me. On the victory I’ve already secured for you.
And maybe today, that’s what you need to hear too.
Maybe you’re feeling pain in your body.
Maybe your heart is heavy with grief.
Maybe you’re in the valley of unemployment, or silently battling depression.
Maybe this Easter season feels more like a wilderness than a resurrection.
You hear the world shouting “He is risen!” but in your heart, you’re wondering—“How can I sing, when my dreams are still buried? When hope hasn’t come alive in me yet?”
I see you. And I’m here to encourage you.
Sing, oh barren woman.
Prophesy to the dry bones, Ezekiel.
Rise up and walk, you man at the pool.
Let your hope be anchored not in your circumstances, but in His victory.
Dance, not because everything makes sense,
but because He said, “It is finished.”
Call those things that are not as though they were.
Because He is risen, we believe we have risen with Him.
And soon—very soon—we will see the manifestation of what He has already completed.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
