Sleep Paralysis

In tranquil serenity, I will lay myself down and sleep, because only You, LORD, make me live surrounded by security” (Psalm 4:8). This December, I’ve been grappling with the terror of sleep paralysis. It’s gotten so significantly worse that it is impacting my regular sleep rhythm because I’ve developed a fear of drifting off to sleep.

Tonight, I was searching for a solution for this in the scriptures, and I was guided towards Ephesians 6. There are many significant insights to gather from this verse. But the one aspect that resonates profoundly with me is where the Lord encourages us to “lift the shield of faith which will guard us against the flaming arrows of the wicked.”

As I contemplated these words, a sense of peace blossomed inside me, reminding me that I am not abandoned. God has endowed me with the tools I need to fight back.

So as I surrender to slumber tonight, I am echoing Your promises back to you, Lord. Tonight, tomorrow, the day after, and for every day of my life: “In tranquility, I will lay down, and only you, God, ensure that I live secure both in the physical and spiritual realms.” You also expressed that “you oversee your word to make it manifest.” Here it is – I’ve voiced your life-giving words! Please, closely watch over them and make them real. Make it so they don’t return in vain. Instead, let them produce fruit and blossom. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
