Embracing Worship as a Lifestyle

I am firmly of the belief that a tactic of the adversary today is to convince us to segment our lives into neatly defined pigeonholes — work, home, church, and whatnot.

A passing thought struck me as I was driving home: reflecting on David who was not only a shepherd, a warrior, and a king, but also penned down Psalms. These Psalms have endured through ages, blessing a multitude of cultures, in ways perhaps more profound than he could have anticipated.

In today’s world, we seem to delegate the task of songwriting solely to musicians, scarcely ever initiating a song without a seasoned musician to guide us. I find it fascinating that in Ephesians 5:19-20, Paul emphasizes, “Sing songs from your heart to Christ. Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song to God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ.”

This leads me to surmise that God’s authentic plan was for the adoration of Him through music to be an integrated part of our everyday life, not solely a Sunday morning occurrence. The Message nails it: “find any excuse to sing”.

I eagerly anticipate the day when people from all walks of life – lawyers, accountants, doctors, homemakers, politicians, mothers, fathers, offspring, you name them! Amidst the daily complexities of their lives, they author songs and hymns that reverberate with posterity and glorify God.

Let’s not overload our “worship leaders” with a role they’re not meant to shoulder. Each of us carries within us a tune that desires to be sung — a melody God Himself has set inside us. He yearns to hear it. And not only is it meant to touch God’s heart, but it’s also meant to instill hope, healing, and plentiful peace throughout the world.

I believe this can be achieved when worship becomes less of an isolated event and more of a way of life, worship focused genuinely toward God’s heart, not for superficial display!

Just imagine: our streets teeming with individuals worshipping! Think about our government brimming with worshippers. Think about those drafting our laws joyfully singing songs of hope and liberation.

Bringing it closer to home, think about a household where the father, mother, and children perpetually worship God. Imagine the peace, the joy, and hope that it would bring!

Good Evening.
